Tony Taylor from George Washington has been selected for StatSheet's A-10 Player of the Week for February 6th. Xavier's Dezmine Wells has been recognized as StatSheet A-10 Freshman of the Week. And last but not least, Duquesne's Jerry Jones has won StatSheet's A-10 6th Man of the Week. Taylor had 4 rebounds per game, 5 assists per game, and 23 points per game. The George Washington senior played well in unfortunate losses to Xavier and Massachusetts.
Taylor led the Colonials in scoring with 20 points and added 5 assists in a 59-58 loss to Xavier. That was followed by a team-leading 26 points plus an additional 5 assists in an 86-75 loss to Massachusetts.
This is the first StatSheet A-10 Player of the Week honor for Tony Taylor. The runner-up this week is senior Brian Conklin from Saint Louis. Honorable mention goes to Dwayne Evans, a sophomore from Saint Louis.
StatSheet A-10 Freshman of the Week: Xavier's Dezmine Wells
Dezmine Wells averaged 28 minutes starting both games for Xavier. In a late 59-58 win over George Washington, Wells registered 4 points and 7 rebounds. In a 72-68 loss to Memphis, he led all scoring with 19 points on 80% shooting.
Dezmine Wells has won the StatSheet A-10 Freshman of the Week an astounding 3 times. Jerrell Wright from La Salle grabs runner-up. T.J. Buchanan from Rhode Island takes honorable mention.
StatSheet A-10 6th Man of the Week: Duquesne's Jerry Jones
Sophomore Jerry Jones, a 6-5 guard/forward, played an average of 23 minutes over two games for the Dukes. In an 83-73 win over Dayton, Jones put up 10 points and 2 assists. During an 81-72 win against Richmond, he racked up 14 points and 8 rebounds.
This is the first StatSheet A-10 6th Man of the Week award for Jerry Jones. Jordair Jett, a sophomore guard from Saint Louis, is runner up. Ronald Roberts Jr., a sophomore forward from St. Joseph's (PA), earns honorable mention. The highest ranking 6th man from Massachusetts was Freddie Riley who finished 5th. Massachusetts has yet to win the StatSheet A-10 Player of the Week award this season.
